WASP technology behind large-scale 3D-printed EuroShop stand

From digital design to full-scale production, a recent application using technology from AM2PM partner WASP demonstrates the potential of large-scale additive manufacturing in real-world applications.

Using WASP’s large-format 3D printing technology, UPM Group created an entirely 3D-printed exhibition stand for EuroShop 2026 in Düsseldorf. Covering approximately 100 m², the installation combined large architectural structures with custom furniture and integrated technological elements, showcasing the versatility of additive manufacturing at an impressive scale.

Production was distributed between UPM Group’s manufacturing facilities in Modena and London, both equipped with WASP technology. Large-scale components were produced using KUKA robotic arms with WASP HDP XL and XXL extruders, enabling the creation of organic and flowing forms while providing the structural strength required for the installation.

The stand also incorporated a variety of functional and design elements, including recessed LED walls, signage, 3D-printed sofas and stools, as well as a suspended Möbius strip installation. From prototyping to final production, the entire process took approximately one and a half months, supported by distributed production across the two manufacturing hubs.

The installation provides a strong real-world example of what can be achieved using WASP’s large-scale robotic additive manufacturing technology in terms of scale, design freedom and automated production.

As an AM2PM project partner, WASP brings this expertise directly into the project. Within AM2PM, the company focuses on adapting its 3D printing technology to meet the needs of new materials, conducting testing and validation, and demonstrating feasibility through prototypes and mock-ups. Through the involvement of partners such as WASP, AM2PM brings together expertise from across the construction and advanced manufacturing sectors to push the possibilities of 3D printing for future construction applications.
