New Publication on 3D-Printed Slab Design and Robotic Fabrication

We are pleased to share a new AM2PM research publication from Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. Researchers Yuchen Tang, Emad Shakur, Oded Amir and Rafael Sacks have published the paper “A Computational Pipeline for Design and Fabrication of Building Slab Units with 3D Printing and Robotic Production Cells”. The research was also presented at the 43rd International Symposium on Automation and Robotics in Construction (ISARC 2026).

The paper presents a computational workflow for hybrid concrete slab units that combines 3D-printed structural ribs with conventionally cast top and bottom layers. By integrating topology optimisation, BIM-based design and robotic simulation, the approach supports the design of slab units with fabrication, transport and on-site assembly requirements considered from an early stage.

The proposed workflow brings design and simulation together, helping researchers assess constructability and fabrication feasibility before physical production – supporting AM2PM’s wider transition from additive to predictive manufacturing.

A presentation of the research is also available on YouTube, offering a closer look at the proposed approach.
